Backup Roots

The Backup Root feature comes standard with all products within the SureSync Suite, adding an extra layer of protection to your SureSync environment with just a few simple steps.

SureSync v8 implemented an oft requested “recycle bin” featured called Backup Roots. When a file is replaced or deleted, the last version of the file is stored in the Backup Root, a valuable feature for any file synchronization software. These backup copies of files are retained for a user defined number of days before being purged. A Backup Root can be added to any SureSync root path, allowing an administrator to quickly restore any accidentally deleted or replaced files.

This feature can be used alongside “resolve multiple updates” in a Collaboration environment where a multi-directional synchronization Rule is used. A multiple update occurs when two users update the same file at the same time on two different machines. An option is provided to copy the file with the latest modified date to automatically resolve the conflict, meaning whoever saved last wins. This could result in losing important file changes. With a Backup Root, that replaced copy is maintained in the Backup Root Path to allow an administrator to restore when needed. By using file replication software with Backup Roots, you can safeguard your data against accidental deletions and replacements.

For those seeking a robust dfs replication software, SureSync’s Backup Root feature provides an additional layer of data protection by retaining previous file versions.
